Brand new entertainment and more for 2016!

This year, we've got brand new stallholders as well as returning friends plus a whole raft of exciting new theatre, music and workshops! And we've got a new look programme and map too!

TryznaOur line-up for 2016 includes lots of new music, theatre and more - oh yes! We welcome Tryzna, the celebrated Medieval music group who travel Europe with their music, plus The Baggshotte Waytes, an authentic medieval brass band and Peterkin’s School for Fools about all things jesting.

We've got a Fayre-exclusive panto-style performance of Chanticleer and The Fox from Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales and that's not all! There's Shakespeare's Deadly Duels, marking the 400th anniversary of the Bard’s death with swashbuckling sword fights, plus the acclaimed BZ Ents return with children’s shows Dastardly Dick or Righteous Richard? and What Ho Henry!, both new to the festival.

Plus there’ll also be carols with the ever popular The Quire, a nativity play from The Mysterious Crew, street theatre from The Shrewsbury Mummers, stories aplenty from The Yarnsmith of Norwich, sword fighting from the stage by fight expert Peter Cann, Discover History's Sword School for youngsters and much more. Not to mention the Fayre’s popular giant puppet Brother Sid and our regular circus skills workshops all weekend!

Jester Kris Katchit entertaining the crowdsPaul  Saunders, Artistic Director of the Fayre (and a renowned musician and performer in his own right), has masterminded the entertainment programme for this year. He said: “I’m delighted by the range of new entertainment we’ve already secured for this year’s Medieval Christmas Fayre on top of our returning regulars. Not only do we have great new music, theatre and live shows but we’ve also got a fantastic new range of workshops for all ages from music and instrument making to dancing.”

On Saturday night, the Fayre will once again be open late for fiery night-time revelry with jugglers, stilt-walkers, dancers and wandering minstrels lighting up the castle with entertainment, carol singing, wassailing, fire breathing and more.
